Our Mission

National Smooth Dancers is dedicated to the support of Social Ballroom Dance in California, the United States of America, and the world.

We are a non-profit, volunteer organization, founded in Los Angeles in 1938 "for the purpose of creating greater interest in finer ballroom dancing and to establish friendliness and good will among smooth dancers."  Our chapter in the San Fernando Valley was established in 1961.  There are eight (8) chapters across California, and we travel often to see each other and have great fun at chapter coronations & dances.

Our Queens are elected from our participating members as our Social Representative to the world.  She and her escorts travel to EVERY Chapter coronation for a year to celebrate and continue our connection.

Smooth Dancing is our term for fine ballroom dancing (or partner dancing).  Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Cha-cha, Samba, Swing, Mambo - played in both American and International tempos - are all enjoyed.  Even the more recent popular partner dances - Hustle, Nightclub Two-Step, Salsa, Argentine Tango, Lindy (Modern Swing) - are played.

Membership

Members of San Fernando Smooth Dancers enjoy a greater sense of connection with the NSD family, with advance notice of Statewide events, and discounts to dances.  Members are also urged to host local dances, and share their dancing with the local community.

You do not have to be an experienced dancer, or have a partner.

Membership dues are only $36 per year, and include discounted admissions, as well as a complimentary copy of our bi-monthly statewide newsletter.  You do need to attend two business meetings (for our chapter, held just prior to our social dances)  in order to complete the membership process and be voted in as an active, voting member.

Contact our Vice-President (Andrea Gutman) for more information or to receive an application.
